A magical thanksgiving

By Ashley Cruz

Image Instead of the traditional thanksgiving at home, my family spent the holiday in Disneyworld where we created some very magical memories.

One of the most special moments for me was to watch my dad’s dream come true the day before Thanksgiving.

My dad, as well as all the Cruz men, is a big fan of NASCAR. I grew up to the sound of men screaming from the living room every Sunday with the television so loud you would expect there to be a racetrack in the other room.

It has been my dad’s lifelong dream to drive a stock car, and this Thanksgiving his wish came true at Disney.

My mom surprised my dad when she told him he would be riding in a NASCAR stock car. He couldn’t believe it. The surprise only got better when my dad’s friend Mike who was with us, said he had upgraded his ticket so that my dad could drive the car instead. My dad could hardly believe it or muster up the words to express how excited and thankful he was.

So, on November 23rd, my dad suited up at Richard Petty’s Driving Experience in the WaltSpeedway to make his dream come true. After eight laps he had gone up to 122mph and created a very special memory.

From the 16-hour drive straight to our resort, to the sound of cars zooming around a racetrack, to having our thanksgiving cooked and delivered to our room, to watching fireworks over Cinderella’s castle, it is certain my family had a very unique and memorable Thanksgiving.
